5 Days in… Park City, Utah.

At SHW, we love to travel! This month, one of our favorite stops was Park City, Utah for a fun incentive trip with one of our clients. Not only is the town beautiful, but full of hidden gems and fun activities. While it’s famous for being the winter place to see and be seen on the slopes and at Sundance Film Festival, it’s also a blast in spring and summer. Here are a few of our favorite spots:

1. High West Distillery

This is a really cool place to visit in Park City. Established 12 years ago, it was the first distillery to open in Utah since the end of Prohibition. They have a restaurant right in the middle of town that’s popular for both locals and visitors—and a great spot to host private events.

About 30 minutes outside of Park City, you can also tour the distillery itself, where you can taste spirits and see how it’s all made. This was a favorite activity while we were in town!

2. St. Regis Hotel

The St. Regis Deer Valley is a BEAUTIFUL hotel for anyone visiting the Park City area.

We love the funicular that transports guests to the hotel. It’s a system similar to a gondola, but instead of hanging from a cable it’s on a set of railroad-like tracks. Upon arrival, the staff greets you at a small lobby, then bags are whisked away to the funicular where guests board to get up to the main hotel. It was a topic of conversation throughout the week!

3. Fly Fishing

The beauty of Park City is the nature that surrounds it. Fly fishing on the Provo River is the perfect way to experience it. Local guides at All Seasons Adventures provide all the necessary gear and pick up hotel guests in monster trucks. How cool is that?

If you happen to be there in the winter, it’s still an option (just remember to pack extra layers against wet and cold!).  The Provo River is one of the best places to catch trout, year-round.

4. Utah Olympic Park

Olympic Park, built for the 2002 Park City Olympics, is a sight to see! You can spot the ski jumps right away, which are huge. You can tour the park and participate in some of the activities! There’s a ropes course, ziplining, and a winter bobsled experience that’s in operation well into spring.

The town maintains strong Olympic ties. At the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, 14 of the 28 U.S. medals awarded were earned by athletes who either live or train in Park City.

5. Historic Main Street District, Park City

The Historic Main Street District in Park City is filled with small, locally owned and operated shops, everything from clothing boutiques to quirky bookstores.

What we loved the most, though, was all the art on display throughout downtown: sculptures, paintings, photographs, and drawings by local artists that give a unique view of the region. There are more than 20 art galleries on Main Street alone. In the spring off-season, downtown still buzzes with locals.

Bonus tip!

Ditch the car! Park City has an extensive free bus system that connects popular spots in the city, including resorts, the Historic Main Street District, and Utah Olympic Park. Not only is it convenient, but the fleet runs entirely on biodiesel, in support of the crisp mountain air and pristine nature surrounding the city.
