How Lighting Can Transform Your Event
Thoughtful lighting design can make a huge impact on the success of an event. Not only can lighting transform the look of a space, it can amplify your message, set a mood for your audience, and infuse energy into the room.
As event planners, we look for ways to engage as many senses as possible to create an impactful experience. Unfortunately, many planners overlook lighting as one of the most efficient, cost-effective ways to bring an event to life, tying together the many elements that go into a program: speakers, content, layout, attendee flow, etc.
The transformative power of lighting can’t be overstated. Take a look at the two photos. It’s the same stage set, but lit differently. The top picture sets the stage to be calm yet mysterious. Simple spots highlight the performer on stage, while cool blue lighting, shadows, and dark space help keep the audience attention on the musician.
Now look at the second photo. Areas of the stage are separated by different colored bright lights; screens display different imagery. The mood is exciting, and hints there will be a lot of action and energy on stage.
When planning your next event, consider your goals, and think about how lighting can enhance the experience so you get the best return on your investment. Tailor your lighting design to serve the intention of the space and the event itself, whether it’s theatrical, tradeshow, social, or conversational.
