This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the women who have led, built, and grown SHW for nearly five decades. As a women-owned event planning company based in Seattle, our story is rooted in leadership, innovation, and a commitment to delivering exceptional event experiences.
Where It All Began
Our story began in 1978, when Linda Granat (pictured far right) founded Seattle VIP Services, the first DMC (Destination Management Company) in Seattle.
From 1978–2002, Linda built an organization grounded in relationships, creativity, and exceptional client experiences. Her leadership established a strong foundation that would evolve into what we know today as SHW, a trusted partner for Seattle corporate events and global programs.
Building the Foundation Over Time
In the years that followed, that foundation expanded through the contributions of many talented leaders. Together, they helped grow our capabilities, deepen our client partnerships, and transform the business into a full-service event and experience partner.

Leadership Today: Vision and Operational Excellence
Today, that legacy is carried forward by leaders like Marka Jenkins and Dixie Burdon, representing both strategic vision and operational excellence.
In 2014, Marka stepped into the role of CEO, guiding SHW into a new era of growth, innovation, and expanded global impact. Under her leadership, the company strengthened strategic partnerships, scaled service offerings, and elevated the standard of client experience. Now serving as Executive Chair, Marka continues to guide the company’s long-term vision and strategic direction, positioning SHW as a leading women-owned event planning company supporting clients across industries.
Alongside her, Dixie Burdon serves as Chief Operating Officer. Following the acquisition of her company, Chrysalis Strategic Event Management, in 2008, Dixie has played a critical role in strengthening SHW’s operational excellence. With a strong operational focus and a client-first mindset, Dixie partners with clients as a true extension of their team, ensuring seamless execution across complex corporate event programs in Seattle and beyond.
