Q&A with Erin Maguire, CMP, Design & Event Director

This month, we’re excited to feature Erin Maguire, SHW’s 2024 Docksider of the Year Award recipient, in our Employee Spotlight! Erin is a powerhouse of creativity and leadership at SHW, recently stepping into the role of Design & Event Director. With over 6 years of dedication to SHW and a career rich in experience across the events and hospitality industry, Erin has a knack for turning visions into unforgettable experiences. Known for her charm, operational excellence, and ability to inspire, Erin is passionate about creating moments that leave lasting impressions.
Get to know Erin as she shares her journey, career highlights, and a glimpse into her life beyond SHW!
Q: What brought you to SHW, and how has your career evolved since you started?
A: I moved back to Seattle from my hometown in Arizona and discovered SHW through a community of planner friends! After meeting the team and recognizing the company’s potential, I knew it was the right fit for me.
Q: Can you share a bit about your background before joining SHW?
A: I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Travel & Tourism. From there, I began my career with an internship in incentive travel and then gained experience in the hotel and conference business at a Scottsdale resort for five years. I transitioned to managing programs and events for a private real estate developer in Arizona and California before joining the Boulders Resort, where I designed weddings and private events. Afterward, I worked at Columbia Hospitality’s Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle. Later, I joined the Hello! Arizona DMC team, but missing Seattle, I returned to the Pacific Northwest and found my home at SHW!
Q: What does your current role entail, and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: This past summer, I stepped into the exciting role of SHW’s Design & Event Director, a position that allows me to keep learning, growing, and mentoring the incredible SHW team. As a senior leader within the Event Operations team, I plan and execute awe-inspiring events while also leading the Event Design Team, introducing fresh and innovative offerings to SHW programs.
Q: What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on recently?
A: The Alaska Airlines Milestone event at T-Mobile Park was a standout! Hosting over 2,000 attendees, with big entertainment and fabulous food and beverages, it was a joy to see Alaska Airlines employees celebrating and enjoying themselves.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at SHW?
A: The people, always. And the projects! I love the creativity and collaboration it takes to produce exceptional events, conferences, and travel experiences for our clients.
Q: What’s your favorite place/experience in Seattle?
A: Discovery Park is a sanctuary in the city that I adore. Another favorite is Ballard’s Golden Gardens Park and a secret beach between the Ballard Elks Lodge and Point Shilshole Condominiums. It’s perfect when the sun is out, offering a secluded beach experience. I recommend grabbing a sandwich from Un Bien across the street to make it even better!
Q: Any hobbies or interests outside of work that inspire you?
A: I enjoy hiking, whether in the deserts of Arizona or the lush trails of the Pacific Northwest. Spending time with family and friends is essential, and I travel as often as possible to experience new cultures, foods, and adventures around the world.
