BECU, a member-owned credit union, is known for its philosophy of “people helping people.” In 2023, they transitioned their annual day of service into a ‘Day of Purpose’ coinciding with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This significant event aimed to bring together over 2,500 BECU employees (including 300 virtually) for a day of learning, connecting, and giving back. The primary objective of the giving back component was to assemble over 30,000 care kits for various non-profits, demonstrating BECU’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
THE APPROACH
SHW’s approach involved meticulous planning and coordination. The event required a comprehensive program including self-improvement and mindfulness education, resulting in a combined 12,500 hours of training for the workforce. With so many components, vendors and physical items, detailed planning and clear communication were essential.
THE IMPACT
Held at the Seattle Convention Center, BECU’s Day of Purpose was a resounding success, marked by high energy and a sense of unity fostered through the shared goal of service. SHW’s effective planning and execution led to the production of approximately 47,000 care kits (exceeding BECU’s goal) benefiting 6 local non-profit charities. Key services provided included event and program management, speaker sourcing and presentation management for 11 keynote/breakout speakers, and a vast array of logistical solutions such as audio/visual support, broadcasting feed management and supplier coordination, décor, and food & beverage management. SHW also implemented a custom event app and eco-friendly technologies for registration and communication.
