Experience Timeless Elegance & Modern Luxury at Seattle’s Fairmont Olympic Hotel

by Cheryl Barnet, Sr. Director of Sourcing, Housing & Event Tech

Situated at 411 University Street, the Fairmont Olympic Hotel places guests within walking distance of Seattle’s most renowned attractions, including Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and the city’s vibrant arts district. Its central location provides both leisure and business travelers with convenient access to the best the city has to offer.

A Century of History

Originally opened in 1924 on the former site of the University of Washington’s first campus, the Fairmont Olympic was designed by the esteemed architectural firm George B. Post & Son, with local supervision by Bebb and Gould. The hotel’s Italian Renaissance style, characterized by opulent interiors and grand staircases, has been meticulously preserved, earning it a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Culinary Excellence at The George

The George offers a brasserie-inspired dining experience showcasing the Pacific Northwest’s freshest seafood, dry-aged meats, and seasonal local produce. Named after the historic Georgian dining room, the space blends classical architecture by George B. Post with a modern redesign featuring an art-deco bar, pendant chandeliers, and Palladian windows.

Executive Chef Guillermo Carreno highlights hyper-seasonal cuisine with farm-fresh ingredients from Washington’s rich agricultural regions. The 4,500-square-foot restaurant includes 100 seats, a 20-seat bar and lounge, and a private dining room for 14. Designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the interiors pair historic elegance with timeless style through geometric marble floors, dark wood, velvet chairs, and hand-painted tiles—ideal for milestones, business lunches, and intimate gatherings.

The Reimagined Olympic Bar

The hotel’s lobby has been transformed with the introduction of the Olympic Bar, a vibrant space that serves as the social heart of the Fairmont Olympic. Guests can enjoy a selection of refined cocktails, local wines, and craft beers, along with a menu of approachable American cuisine. The bar’s design pays homage to the hotel’s history while incorporating contemporary elements, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both casual gatherings and sophisticated soirées.

Discover the Hidden Gem: Founders Club

Tucked behind a discreet bookcase in the Olympic Bar lies the Founders Club, a speakeasy-inspired enclave that offers an intimate setting for discerning cocktail enthusiasts. With seating for just 30 guests, the Founders Club boasts an extensive collection of rare and vintage spirits, including a comprehensive cognac selection. The bar’s ambiance, characterized by deep wood tones and polished brass accents, evokes the glamour of the 1920s, providing a unique and memorable experience.

An Ideal Venue for Groups & Incentive Travel

Beyond its luxurious accommodations and exceptional dining options, the Fairmont Olympic excels as a venue for meetings, events, and incentive travel. With over 28,000 square feet of versatile event space, including grand ballrooms and intimate meeting rooms, the hotel can accommodate a wide range of gatherings. Its dedicated event planning team ensures that each event is executed with precision and flair, making the Fairmont Olympic a top choice for corporate retreats, conferences, and celebratory occasions.
